The best beaches in Southeast Asia for families are the calm, shallow ones with resorts nearby: Kamala and Bang Tao in Phuket, Sanur and Nusa Dua in Bali, Pantai Cenang in Langkawi, and Non Nuoc in Da Nang. They have gentle water, easy access from an international airport, and restaurants and medical help close by. From the UAE, Emirates flies nonstop from Dubai to Phuket in about 6.5 hours and to Bali in about 9 hours, so Phuket is the shortest of these trips for families with young children.

Thailand: Phuket and Koh Samui
Thailand is an easy family choice because its main beach islands have international airports, plenty of family resorts and calm beaches on certain coasts.
Kamala and Bang Tao: Phuket’s west coast for young children
Kamala has a long stretch of sand and gentle, shallow water. Many resorts there have kids’ clubs and splash pools. Bang Tao, just to the north, has large resorts and a quieter atmosphere than busy Patong. Sea conditions on Phuket’s west coast change with the monsoon, so check the beach flags and ask your hotel about safe swimming times, especially between about May and October.
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island, close to both beaches. Book a private transfer with child seats in advance so you are not searching for a car with tired children. Browse family hotels in Phuket to compare resorts near Kamala and Bang Tao.
Koh Samui
Koh Samui, in the Gulf of Thailand, is another good family option with resorts on calmer bays. Its rainy season comes at a different time of year from Phuket’s, so it can be a good alternative when the Andaman coast is rough.
Bali for families: Sanur and Nusa Dua
Bali’s south-east coast has sheltered water and plenty of cultural trips within reach.
Sanur Beach
Sanur has a long paved beach path, calm water inside the reef and beachfront cafes, which suits families with buggies and grandparents. Boats leave from Sanur for Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, a good day trip with older children.
Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is a planned resort area with wide, well-kept beaches and shallow water. Resorts sit close together, so grandparents and children can do different things nearby. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is a short drive away. Compare hotels in Bali for Sanur or Nusa Dua. Bali’s dry season usually runs from about April to September, according to Indonesia’s official tourism site.
Malaysia: Langkawi and the Perhentian Islands
Langkawi, Pantai Cenang: about 2 km of soft sand with calm, gently sloping water, plus restaurants and supervised watersports along the beach. Mangrove boat tours and wildlife parks are good half-day trips for children.
Perhentian Islands: less developed, so better for older children who can swim confidently. Shallow water near the shore is good for snorkelling, but facilities are basic.
Langkawi International Airport (LGK) has domestic flights from Kuala Lumpur. Emirates flies nonstop from Dubai to Kuala Lumpur in about 7 hours, so see Dubai to Kuala Lumpur flights to plan the first leg.
Vietnam: Da Nang and Phu Quoc
Vietnam has fast-growing beach resorts with modern infrastructure.
- Da Nang, Non Nuoc Beach: smooth sand and shallow water, with the Marble Mountains and the old town of Hoi An close by for a day of sightseeing.
- Phu Quoc: west-coast beaches with family resorts, kids’ clubs and water activities.
Both have international airports (DAD and PQC), usually reached from the UAE with a connection.
